PAYMENT FOR UNUSED SICK LEAVE


A certified employee who discontinues employment with the Amphitheater School District is eligible for compensation for accrued but unused sick leave as follows:

1. Certified employees hired prior to July 1, 1998:

Certified employees hired in the Amphitheater School District prior to January 1, 1984, will have no change in the sick leave reimbursement program. They will be reimbursed for unused sick leave at the daily rate of a beginning teacher at the lowest step of the salary schedule at the time of - discontinuing employment.

B. Certified employees hired on or after January 1, 1984:

1. Certified employees hired in the Amphitheater School District on or after January 1, 1984, and who retire (including participation in the Amphitheater School District Early Retirement Program) will be reimbursed for unused sick leave at the daily rate of a beginning teacher at the lowest step of the salary schedule at the time of discontinuing employment with a maximum number of days of 150 or the number of sick leave days accrued at June 30, 1998, whichever is greater.

2. Certified employees hired in the Amphitheater School District on or after January 1, 1984, and who terminate employment with the District without retiring will be reimbursed for unused sick leave at $110 per day with a maximum number of days for payment of 150 or the number of sick leave days accrued at June 30, 1998, whichever is greater.

3. Certified employees hired in the Amphitheater School District on or after January 1, 1984, who terminate employment with the District prior to completion of five consecutive years with the District will be reimbursed for unused sick leave at the rate of $25 per day.

II. Certified employees hired on or after July 1, 1998:

A. Certified employees who began employment with the Amphitheater School District on or after July 1, 1998, and who have completed at least seven years of employment with the District and who are retiring (including participation in the Amphitheater School District Early Retirement Program) will be reimbursed for unused sick leave at the daily substitute rate at the time of discontinuing employment for each unused sick day up to a maximum of 100 days.

B. Certified employees who began employment with the Amphitheater -School District on or after July 1, 1998, and who have completed at least seven years of employment with the District and who terminate employment with the district without retiring will be reimbursed for unused sick leave at 50% of the daily substitute rate at the time of discontinuing employment for each unused sick day up to a maximum of 100 days.

C. Certified employees hired in the Amphitheater School District on or after July 1, 1998, who terminate employment with the District prior to completion of seven consecutive years with the District will not be reimbursed for unused sick leave.
